  Sounds shimmering like dewdrops, falling like shooting stars, raging like torrents. An impeccable technique that swings just as it should, but sounds as flawless as the playing of a classical master pianist. Sergey Zhilin is internationally regarded as one of the most technically mature jazz pianists of our time. The Russian soloist, composer, band leader and arranger is celebrated in Europe as well as in the USA. With phenomenal abilities he translates music from all genres and areas into his own language without ever losing quality and depth. And, in terms of music, there is nothing that the Muscovite musician would be afraid of – to our delight: Zhilin is capable of transforming Tchaikovsky's music with such a creativity that his project "Tchaikovsky in Jazz. The Seasons" sounds like a programme of all-time jazz standards. In “The Blues Brothers II” he pays homage to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, transforms the Beatles evergreen "Yesterday" into a beautiful jazz ballad and gives Duke Ellington's "Caravan" pianistic brilliance à la Gershwin.

  Zhilin's pianistic grandeur is no accident. For years he studied at the Moscow Music Conservatory where he was trained as a classical musician. Everyone expected the young virtuoso to become an important concert pianist. But instead of pursuing a classical career, he decided on jazz, went to the “Moscow College of Improvised Music” in 1982 and founded the legendary “Fonograf Jazz Band”, only one year later. Together with his ensemble, he dedicates himself to his unrestrained desire to experiment with genres such as traditional jazz, classical music, soul, mainstream, funk, jazz-rock, fusion as well as songs by stars like Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and Lenny Kravitz. Zhilin's stylistic flexibility and versatility is shared by his ensemble and marks his collaboration with such diverse formations as the Presidential Orchestra of the Russian Federation under Pavel Ovsyannikov or his annual performances with pop and folk stars at the international festival "The Slavic Bazaar".

  In 2002 Zhilin became the music director and chief conductor of the Russian version of the Broadway musical “Chicago”. In 2003 he was music director of the international festival “Days of Russian Culture”. Among Zhilin's most outstanding projects are the series “Raptures in Jazz”, organized together with outstanding Russian pianists in Moscow's “Golden Ring” theatre, and the annual format “JazzValentine” in Moscow's House of International Music.

  Igor Butman is one of the most important jazz musicians in Russia. Without any kind of exaggeration he can be called one of the most important jazz musicians in the world. Experts and fans around the globe are captivated by the warmth and richness of his tone, the energy of his attack, the smoothness of his phrases and the sensuality with which he makes his saxophone speak to the audience. With infallible taste, the musical ambassador of his Russian homeland leads his saxophone through highs and lows, making it roar, flatter, murmur, sigh, lure, rant, scream and shriek, chasing it through preposterously fast runs, yet always remaining tasteful, flawless in phrasing and accurate in timing. And then,  the artist who was compared to a steamroller by the New York Times, all of a sudden, touches the hearts of his audience with the sheer beauty of his sound.

  Butman is the leader of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra and the Igor Butman Quintet. He appeared on stage with nearly every jazz celebrity, including Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Lionel Hampton, and Grover Washington. In the recording studio he joined Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, John Patitucci, Stefon Harris, and Randy Brecker. Together with Herbie Hancock he became the Artistic Director of the “International Jazz Days” in Saint Petersburg in 2008. On the occasion of the commemoration of the 50^th anniversary of the end of the World War II, he performed in front of the presidents of Russia and the USA in Moscow.

  Butman studied clarinet and saxophone with Gennadi Golstein at the Mussorgsky Music School. In 1987 he went to the United States to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he performed with Gary Burton and others. In the 1980s he performed with Pat Metheny and Grover Washington Jr. In 1993 he recorded his first solo album with his own compositions in the USA. Butman frequently travels between the Russian capital and New York. In Moscow, he is a promoter and organizer of the local jazz scene. Since 2000 he has been organizing the Muscovite "Triumph of Jazz Festival" and is the director of the famous jazz club "Le Club".
