The undisputed prima donna of our time
Prima donna, world star and style icon – Anna Netrebko is the most famous opera diva in the world. Acclaimed by the audience and praised by the critique, she is known and admired far beyond the circle of lovers of classical music. Thus, it is not surprising that Anna Netrebko was the first classical artist ever to be named one of the 100 most influential personalities in the world by TIME Magazine.
The meteoric rise of her international career began in 2002 with her triumphant debut at the Salzburg Festival as Donna Anna in Mozart's "Don Giovanni". Contracts at the world's leading opera houses and performances in the most important concert halls followed. Her Violetta in Verdi's "La traviata" (Salzburg, 2005) or her Manon in Massenet's opera of the same name (Berlin, 2007) gained cult status, thanks to both her vocal performance and her absolute commitment to the directing concept. Great moments in her career, such as the video project "The Woman, The Voice" (2004) and the concert with Plácido Domingo and Rolando Villazón (Soccer World Cup 2006, Berlin) that was broadcasted worldwide, brought her a popularity only comparable to that of a true pop star.
Throughout her career, the soprano, born in Krasnodar in 1971 and trained in Russia's most renowned music institutes, has continuously expanded her repertoire. In the course of the years, the amber-colour of her timbre has gained in lustre and richness of facets, opening a wide range of possibilities for the further development of her career.
Her debuts as Elsa in Wagner's “Lohengrin” (Dresden, 2016) and Puccini's “Tosca” (New York, 2018) show how cleverly she plans her career, reinforcing her reputation as the undisputed prima donna of our days. Netrebko is a regular guest at the world's leading opera houses such as the New York Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, La Scala in Milan, the State Operas in Vienna, Munich and Berlin, the Marinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Her repertoire includes roles like Mimì in Puccini's "La Bohème", Violetta in Verdi's "La traviata", Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" as well as the title roles in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" and Massenet's "Manon". She has been celebrated with programmes showcasing arias from opera and art song at Carnegie Hall (New York), the Waldbühne in Berlin and the Red Square in Moscow, together with super stars such as Plácido Domingo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Daniel Barenboim. Netrebko continues to be one of the most sought-after singers at the Salzburg Festival and performs at the legendary "Nights of the Proms" in London. She also has a deep artistic relationship with her husband Yusif Eyvazov (tenor) with whom she regularly performs.
Anna Netrebko has been honoured with countless prizes. Among the most important awards are the German Media Prize, the ECHO Classic Award, the British Classical Award and the "Casta Diva" Prize. Anna Netrebko appeared on advertising campaigns of the Swiss luxury jeweller Chopard in Geneva for 10 years. Before that she had advertising contracts with the renowned cosmetic brand Schwarzkopf.
