„Yusif Eyvazov is a tenore lirico spinto with all the power needed. His top notes are phenomenal and he sings with a lot of feelings.“ - Plácido Domingo
Yusif Eyvazov is a recognized specialist for the Italian repertoire. With a radiant voice, metallic brilliance, character and Italianità, he is a sincere and sensitive interpreter of great tenor roles from Verdi operas such as “Aida”, “Il trovatore”, “Un ballo in maschera” and “Macbeth”, Puccini's “Tosca”, “Manon Lescaut”, “Turandot” and “Il tabarro”, Mascagni's “Cavalleria rusticana” and Giordano's “Andrea Chénier”. He made his debut as Canio in Leoncavallo's “I pagliacci” under the baton of Plácido Domingo. He sang the Calaf in Puccini's “Turandot” for the first time at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. At the Berlin Opera he made his debut in Verdi's “Il trovatore”, an opera he recently sang with Anna Netrebko at the Arena di Verona.
Eyvazov also sang the tenor part in Verdi's “Requiem” and has recently expanded his repertoire to include French roles such as the Don José in Bizet's “Carmen”. Yusif Eyvazov has received enthusiastic reviews for his interpretations at the great opera houses in Vienna, Milan, Rome, Salzburg, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Berlin and at the leading houses in Russia, South Korea and Japan. He regularly tours the world and sings in front of huge audiences at the London Night of the Proms or locations such as the Waldbühne in Berlin and the Red Square in Moscow together with stars like Plácido Domingo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Daniel Barenboim.
Yusif Eyvazov was born in Algeria, but raised in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Originally, the tenor wanted to become a meteorologist. When, as a student, he sang in front of friends at a party, they were so impressed that they practically forced him to enter the Music Academy in Baku. He then continued his training at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and finally moved to Italy in 1997 to study with the legendary tenor Franco Corelli and soprano Ghena Dimitrova. Yusif Eyvazov lives in Vienna together with his family.
